MBFF History
In the game of basketball and, especially in the NBA, stories abound of big accomplishments and beating the odds. One of the most amazing stories would be that of Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues. It was inspiring to watch this 5’3” phenom defend some of the best players in the NBA with a style that awed and amazed any that had the pleasure to watch him.
Most would have doubted Muggsy would ever be able to achieve his dreams, but not Muggsy. Wanting to share his good fortune of overcoming hardships and obstacles and spread his philosophy of “always believe,” Muggsy began his philanthropic efforts by establishing Always Believe, Inc. in 2013. The mission was to provide a safe place for at-risk youth, ages 12-18, to excel and motivate them to achieve their dreams. Muggsy’s passion has always been youth development so this is where his non-profit journey began, reaching over 1,000 youth in Charlotte and abroad. Muggsy observed that for many at-risk youth in Charlotte, meals became the most important part of the program.
After consultation with key sponsors and donors, in 2019 Muggsy changed the name of his nonprofit to the Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation for better brand recognition but with the same determination to help lift up families in need.
