Food insecurity remains a significant issue in Mecklenburg County. This year, to have deeper reach and better impact, the MBFF is focusing its food distribution efforts in the 28208 and 28214 zip codes on Charlotte’s west side. Underserved families in these zip codes have the opportunity to participate in our Labor of Love food distribution events.
The lack of access to affordable and healthy foods is a growing concern for a number of our community members in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. This issue is only exacerbated by rising food costs. The Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation’s Labor of Love events seek to increase access by providing nutritious foods at no cost to community residents and serving neighborhoods that are not in close proximity to full service grocery stores.
Thank You To Our Partner Agencies
Besides the food families receive, the MBFF also arranges for workforce development providers, preventive health services, and other resources to be onsite to engage with participants. At our Spring Labor of Love, these partners played a huge role in our success:
- Food Lion Human Resources and NCWorks: employment and training opportunities
- Charlotte Community Health Clinic: blood pressure checks, COVID tests and vaccines
- Wellcare: personal hygiene kits
- Healthy Blue North Carolina: health education and Medicaid information
- The MJW Group: kids toys and some essential toiletries
- The Odd Sock: socks of all sizes for family members
- CGC Water Treatment: cases of drinking water
- E2D: two laptops won by food recipients
Volunteerism is critical to running our events. Many thanks to our very committed volunteers who represented Food Lion, Microsoft, G1 Ministries, Mecklenburg County, MassMutual, CRC Group, Great Southern Bank, Mecklenburg County ABC Board, and I-Pharm.
None of this work could be accomplished without financial assistance from our very generous program sponsors. Your support is greatly appreciated!

“I really want to thank the Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation for providing my family with assistance while facing food insecurities during this past year. While attending my first food drive with this foundation, I was introduced to some community resources; which is now allowing me the opportunity to participate in a course to obtain my Natural Hair Care License at CPCC. In May, we were invited to another food drive by my case manager, Dana, from the Meck to Success program, and my family was really excited to attend and meet Mr. Bogues again. While attending we received plenty of fresh food/water and community resources; and we were fortunate to meet Mr. Bogues again. I had to thank him personally for the support he has provided our family with. I truly believe that he understood the impact that he has provided our family and even took a picture with us all.”
