Betsy Mack
Betsy Mack is the Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility for Hornets Sports & Entertainment (HSE) and the Executive Director of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation. In this role, she oversees all aspects of the organization’s community outreach and charitable foundation, including efforts for the Charlotte Hornets, the NBA G League Greensboro Swarm and the NBA 2k League Hornets Venom GT. Mack leads the Swarm to Serve initiative, which includes the Charlotte Hornets Foundation and HSE’s Corporate Social Responsibility department. The initiative is committed to inspiring a philanthropic culture and strengthening the Charlotte region through intentional partnerships, charitable giving and social projects in the areas of Education, Hunger, Military and Wellness.
One of Mack’s most significant accomplishments as Executive Director of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation is revamping how the organization distributes its grants. Under her leadership, there is now an improved focus and grants are much more impactful today than in years past. Since its inception, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation has awarded over 250 grants, and with the help of over 10,000 individual volunteers, 500 player appearances and 120 partnerships, it has grown into the robust organization it is today.
Among the many important initiatives Mack has helped launch is HSE’s Social Justice Platform in January 2021. Through activations like theme nights, celebrations and community events, HSE works to raise awareness and provide support in areas related to diversity and inclusion, social justice and economic mobility. As one of the most diverse organizations in the NBA, HSE leadership places emphasis on highlighting diversity and inclusion within the organization as well as in the community through the platform. Mack came to the Hornets with experience in public relations, community development, fundraising and marketing. Previously, Mack was the Director of Emerging Markets for Technology Partners, responsible for leading the company’s expansion, focusing on increasing the company’s national footprint. Mack also worked at United Way for five years, working on five campaigns, with a sole responsibility of fundraising for over $15 million annually.
Betsy represents the Hornets organization on various boards and at community events throughout the year. She currently serves on the Executive Leadership Council of the American Heart Association, the Board of Directors of Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and the Board of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. She also serves on the Mayor of Charlotte’s Racial Equity Workstream and is highly involved in the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council (CELC), including serving as chair of the group’s education committee. In addition to the organizations noted above, Mack has been actively involved with United Way of Central Carolinas and Classroom Central, where she served as Co-Chair for the Educate Your Palate charity dinner to raise funds for school supplies for kids in poverty. She has been recognized on several occasions as being a community leader.
In 2023, Mack was awarded the Charlotte Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award. Mack was also was honored as one of the Charlotte Business Journal’s Power 100, awarded to 100 regional leaders using their influence to move the city forward and create jobs, focused on DE&I. In 2018, she received the prestigious Volunteer of the Year award for United Way of Central Carolinas. She was also one of Elevate Lifestyle Magazine’s 30 Under 30 in 2016 and was recognized as Newcomer of the Year by the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals. Mack holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations with a minor in Sports Marketing from Illinois State University.
