Michelle Thomas is the Citizenship & Public Affairs Manager for Microsoft Southeast Region, covering eight states from North Carolina to Florida. Michelle’s responsibilities include developing the citizenship strategy; driving local corporate social responsibility programs including YouthSpark and digital literacy grants and software; and investing in programs that assist in providing technology education and careers for students, the underemployed and the disadvantaged. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Microsoft Charlotte Campus, Ms. Thomas served as the liaison between the community and Microsoft’s technology business driving the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions citizenship engagements. Committed to helping others realize their potential, she has served on the Charlotte Works Youth Council appointed by US Transportation Anthony Foxx (former Mayor, City of Charlotte); Community Affairs Professionals of Charlotte (composed of all Charlotte Fortune 500 Community Affairs & Public Relations Professionals); Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) Foundation Task Force; the Charlotte Chamber Education & Workforce Development Committee, United Negro College Fund, a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum; Leadership Charlotte and received the United Negro College Fund Maya Angelou Women Who Lead Award. Prior to joining Microsoft, Ms. Thomas served in county government and the non-profit industry as the Violence Against Women Program Director & Women’s Issues Media Spokesperson for the Mecklenburg County Women’s Commission; Director of Marketing & Community Relations for the Chemical Dependency Center; Special Events Coordinator for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; Human Services Coordinator for the Charlotte Housing Authority; and owner of MFT Public Relations, serving as a consultant and event planner for NBA/NFL Players. A native of Charlotte, Michelle Thomas graduated from Spelman College, in Atlanta, Georgia where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She has also received training through the Boston College Carroll School of Management – Center for Corporate Citizenship. A young woman with a strong belief in God, Ms. Thomas is an active member of Victory Christian Center in Charlotte.
